Early Childhood Development--Infant Stimulation Stage
Over 100 children are participating in the Infant Stimulation phase of the program in Las Milpas and Progreso. This phases commences with weekly visits six weeks before the baby is due and continues with weekly visits until the baby is nine months old. These visits follow a very carefully structured program designed to monitor the child's development in sight, hearing, language development, motor skills and cognitive development. The home visitor's goal is to assist the parents in learning about and understanding their infant's development, as well as to strengthen the bond between the baby and parents.

TODDLER PHASE--EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
The Toddler Phase begins at nine months and lasts until the child is three years old. Mother and child come to the Su Casa educational center once a week for l l/2 hour sessions of interaction with other mothers and babies. The child's development stimulation instruction continues through activities and exercises using equipment designed to facilitate development at the child's age level. The mother is involved in every activity and is instructed in ways to continue teaching the child at home. The bond between the mother and child is again stressed in this program, through creative play and music. At three years of age, the child graduates to the local Head Start program.
